The MS in Telecommunication and Networls Engineering focuses on the most popular telecommunication networks of the present. Emphasis of the program is on wireless communications, telecommunication architecture evolution, digital communication and radio technology. Key subject areas in mobile networks are wireless communication, quality of service, mobility and security. Students have the opportunity to take courses in general telecommunications and specialized mobile communication. This program is a unique graduate degree program designed to prepare students to be agents of change in the undergoing transition to a completely new networking paradigm that is emerging from competing technologies, standards and business models.
Aim of the Program
The specific objectives of this program are to
- provide a foundation for the student to develop an appreciation and an understanding of the principles of telecommunication engineering
- inculcate knowledge of design, construction and operation of communications systems and software applications necessary for telecommunication systems
- develop the skills in the planning, design and management of telecommunication infrastructure in the local and international settings
- train students to appreciate professional obligations, responsibilities and ethics in relation to the needs of society
- provide a sound academic base to embark on life long learning and research for personal grooming
Telecommunications engineers find their extensive demand in a number of industries, including internet and computing technologies, networking and telecommunications and radio. This field offers both applications of technical knowledge as well as managerial activities. Many specialists in this field find elements of both managerial and technical responsibilities. The technical aspect of the role includes using specialist knowledge to design and deliver solutions, as well as providing technical guidance to others within the organization. Managerial responsibilities involve planning and managing projects within time and budget and to the agreed standards of quality. Telecommunications technical staff typically works in telecommunications carriers and large business enterprises.
All applications are evaluated on the basis of merit as determined by their previous academic record and performance in admission test/interview.
16-years of education with Bachelors in either of the following disciplines.
- BE Electronics/Electrical/Computer Engineering/Telecommunication
- BS Telecommunication/Electronics/Computer Science
A prospective applicant to an MS/M Phil or 18 Years equivalent program must have:
a. 16 Years of formal education with no more than one second division or less than 2.50 CGPA throughout the academic career.
b. No third division in entire academic career.
c. Pass any of the following with 50% marks:
i. GRE / GAT / NTS (General); or
ii. UMT Graduate Admission Test; and
iii. Admission Interview by UMT Graduate Admission Committee
d. Minimum 50% marks in previous degree in case of annual system or 2.50/4.0 CGPA in case of semester system in the degree awarding institution for admission in UMT MS/MPhil, LLM or MBA programs.
e. Fulfilled the minimum criteria of HEC for admission in MS/M.Phil program. Meet the specific eligibility criteria, if any, of the department / school concerned.
f. In case of an equivalent foreign qualification, an equivalent certificate from Higher Education Commission is mandatory.
g. In case the foreign degree/transcript is in any language other than English or Urdu, an officially translated copy of the degree/transcript is mandatory.
h. An officially translated copy is the one verified by the degree awarding institution, respective foreign ministry or an authorized public notary.
