of the Local Garment Industry |

A
recent survey indicated that Pakistani garment industry's
productivity level is quite low as compared to the neighbouring
countries. More than 17% orders are delayed due to mismanagement.
As a result, on average, 15% orders are sent by air instead
of by sea. Moreover, production rejection-rate is between
10-13%, which is quite high. It is estimated that productivity
can be enhanced by 25-50% while retaining the existing infrastructure.
Fundamental changes are required for realizing this target.
Fortunately, an increasing number of factory owners are becoming
aware of their weaknesses and are trying to make changes to
improve the situation.
Keeping the clear and present productivity gap in view, University
of Management and Technology (UMT) has taken a bold step to
assist the garment industry in the form of the Garment Productivity
Centre (GPC).
