PTCL Data Center Visit

As a regular practice from Software Engineering Deptarment to have students visit the industry workplace to have look and feel of working environment as well as to learn how the practical things are working in industry , the students from “Computer Networks and Operating  System” sections were selected based on their standings in the mid-term examinations to visit state of the art PTCL Data Center situated at Wafaqi Calony , Dhana Singh on Canal Bank road on 26th November 2018.

The students were given detailed overview of what is a Data center , its significance and importance in corporate sector as well as its technical aspects by the Data Center staff.

After the 30 min briefing the students visited different sections of data center and saw the latest equipment comprising of high end routers , switches , SAN storage , EMC2 server , VMware servers .

They were also shown how Data center is managed 24/7 365 days a year , power equipment comprising of high end APC UPS along with high tech air conditioning units ensuring optimum cooling for the data center throughout the year.

The students were very curious and asked various questions from the data center staff and were pleased to find the prompt answers.

As a 12 year ICT industry veteran , I personally strongly feel that students should be give more and more exposure to Industry by such kind of trips so that their vision ad understanding improves along with their theoretical knowledge in classes. Only theory without practical know how is not of much importance.
