A guest lecture was organized by Dr. Malik Tahir Hassan and Dr. Sajid Mahmood for students of Data Mining and Machine Learning on 17th June, 2021. The guest speaker was Dr. Muhammad Aasim Rafique, a Researcher at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, Gwangju, South-Korea. Dr. Aasim shared his academic, industry and research profile; and discussed about various state-of-the-art developments in areas like Generative Modeling, Unsupervised and Self- Supervised Learning, Neuromorphic Computing, and Autonomous Vehicles. He discussed the Korean market and their success during the past years. Dr. Aasim shared various scholarship programs and admission opportunities in Korean universities. He guided the students to consider applying Korea for their post-graduation and shared perks of availing an internship in Korea. For example, international undergraduate seniors or master degree students having CGPA of 3.0 or above can avail internship in GIST. GIST reimburses part of the round-trip airfare to Korea as well. Also, it provides a monthly stipend and provides dormitory accommodations during the internship. In the end, queries related to admissions, scholarships, Korean culture and environment were also answered by Dr. Aasim. Overall, it was a motivational and knowledgeable session for students planning to pursue higher education in future.
