The School of Systems and Technology (SST) at the University of Management and Technology (UMT) proudly celebrates a remarkable achievement as its students become the only Pakistani and South Asian team to reach the Global Semifinals of the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2025—one of the world’s leading technology startup competitions.
The recognition comes for their innovative project, Smart Grade AI, an Azure AI-powered solution designed to transform the exam grading process. By automating assessments, the system enables educators to instantly grade exams, reduce human error, and provide detailed feedback—saving time while improving accuracy and fairness.
Smart Grade AI features AI-driven grading for fast, consistent results, along with advanced handwriting recognition that supports both handwritten and digital exam submissions. The platform is also designed for seamless integration with existing educational systems and Learning Management Systems (LMS), making it practical and scalable for widespread adoption.
The team behind this success includes Ahmad Aslam (Class of 2026), Huzaifa Fiaz (Class of 2026), Khursheed Ahmed (Class of 2026), and Syed Sadaim Haider Shah (Class of 2025). Their innovation reflects SST–UMT’s commitment to developing impactful, technology-driven solutions.
Looking ahead, the team aims to expand Smart Grade AI across schools, universities, and edtech platforms, while further refining its ability to interpret diverse handwriting styles and scale automated grading globally.
This milestone highlights the talent and potential of SST students and reinforces UMT’s position as a hub of innovation and excellence. education.
